Election Remark
Professor Moshe Oren is a Professor of Molecular Cell Biology and Immunology at Weizmann Institute of Science.

He has made important contributions to research on the p53 tumor suppressor and demonstrated that p53, but not cancer-associated derivatives thereof, can suppress malignant transformation.

Additionally, he has showed that p53 can induce cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in cancer cells and identified Mdm2 as responsible for the ubiquitination and degradation of p53.

Also, he Identified p53 as a transcriptional regulator of specific miRNAs and elucidated regulatory crosstalk between p53 and the Hippo tumor suppressor pathway. He has described tumor suppressor activities of the E3 ligase RNF20 and histone H2B monoubiquitination.

He has received awards such as the Lester Aronberg Award, Levinson Award, Feher Award, Abisch-Frankel Prize, Lombroso Award, EMET Prize, NIH MERIT award, and Israel Prize. He is a member of Academia Europaea, European Cancer Academy, Israel National Academy, and EMBO.

He was elected as member of the European Academy of Engineering in 2012.
